How to get there

The advised route to Coimbra is to fly to Lisboa and then take the train to Coimbra.
Bus 44 goes from the airport ("Aeroporto de Lisboa") to the railway station ("Estação do Oriente") where one takes the train to Coimbra (see map, the airport and the station are indicated with large orange circles).
The train takes about two hours from Lisboa to Coimbra and the ticket costs around 16 euros (indicative: the cost depends on the train).

You will then arrive to the railway station "COIMBRA B".
The next step now depend on your schedule:

• Participants arriving the 31st August in the morning or early in the afternoon can deposit their luggage at Departamento de Fisica at the University. There will be staff persons to wellcome you there, and this is where the bus to Caramulo will depart from.
  To get to Departamento de Fisica from the station of Coimbra-B, you will take a train connection to Coimbra-A station, which is in the city centre. This connection is free of charges.
  From Coimbra-A, you can take a bus direct to the University (no 1). This bus stops just outside of the Coimbra-A station.
  If you prefere, you can go walking along the following path: Hotel Astoria, Largo da Portagem, Couraça de Lisboa. At the top of Couraça de Lisboa you will start seeing posters and signes to lead your way.
  You can download and print the map of Coimbra in different resolutions (small, large, huge).
  On these maps: blue squares were used to mark both railway stations, and a dotted line indicates the way from Coimbra-A to the University.
• Participants arriving later, may consider getting the bus directly in Coimbra B.
  Both of the buses we organise (18h and 21h30, i.e. 6 P.M. and 9:30 PM) will stop at the Coimbra-B station.

How to reach Coimbra by car

From Porto or Lisboa -

On highway A1, take the way out to Coimbra.

From Vilar Formoso (border Portugal/Spain, close to Salamanca) -

Take road IP5 towards Aveiro. Near Aveiro take highway A1 heading south, towards Lisboa. On highway A1, take the way out to Coimbra.

Your return journey

See this web page for the train schedule from the railway station in Coimbra (Coimbra B) to the railway station in Lisboa (Lisboa Oriente).

If you wish to return with an early flight from Liboa on saturday the 6th of september, i.e. before 16h (i.e. 4 P.M.), it is safer not to leave Caramulo with the bus we will provide (at 10 AM), but to leave earlier (either on the friday evening, with an overnight in Coimbra, or early on the saturday, depending on the time of your flight).
There are buses leaving from the nearby village of "Tondela" on the saturday morning, see the time table.
Tondela is 20km away from Caramulo and can be reached by taxi(anytime), or by bus (except Saturday and Sunday).
